Alarm Systems
NZSA Members will install an Intruder Alarm in your home / business which complies with New Zealand Standards NZS4301:1993 and the NZSA Code of Practice for Intruder Alarms.
This means that NZSA Members only use trained installers who will make sure that your intruder alarm is installed to the highest standards.
It is important that you check with your insurer about the type of alarm that is acceptable to them and whether the specifications meet the requirements of your insurance policy.
Most standard intruder alarm packages include:
• A backlit alarm keypad for easy use.
• Passive infrared detectors to detect intruders.
• An alarm control box which is usually fitted out of sight.
• An external and internal siren to deter burglars.
• A battery back-up in case of power failure.
• Warning stickers from your NZSA installer as a further deterrent to would-be intruders.
Note that the NZSA Code of Practice for Intruder Alarms recommends that maintenance is carried on your alarm system every 6 months.
You will need to choose whether or not you require your alarm to be monitored or non-monitored. If you have your alarm monitored there will always be someone available 24hours to check with you if there is an activation. A patrol will be sent to your home if you have made those arrangements with your monitoring company.
All monitoring companies who are members of the NZSA provide services which comply with the NZSA Code of Practice for Alarm Monitoring Stations.
You can find a registered Alarm Monitoring company by using the Site Search function on this website.
